Electric car promotion fast charging infrastructure for business

Electromobility continues to receive very strong monetary support. In order to achieve climate targets and act sustainably, the German government has decided to further promote electromobility and the expansion of the charging infrastructure. For this purpose, a lot of money has been made available for subsidy programs and new electric car subsidies have been launched. On behalf of the BMDV, the National Charging Infrastructure Control Center under the umbrella of the federally owned NOW GmbH coordinates and controls the activities for the expansion of the charging infrastructure in Germany and thus contributes to the implementation of the Charging Infrastructure Master Plan II. Since 18.09.2023, a new funding call has been initiated, which is particularly interesting for commercial operators. As always, Projektträger Jülich is responsible for processing the applications. How to apply for electric car funding and which requirements you have to fulfill, you can read here!

Table of contents

1. electric car funding for fast charging infrastructure: what does the funding call include?

The funding call essentially guarantees funding for non-public and commercially used fast-charging infrastructure for SMEs and large companies. The required network connection, including the necessary civil engineering work, is also eligible for funding. The funding is provided as a share of the financing with a maximum amount of up to €5 million per application; this is calculated from the sum of the individual funding amounts per charging point and depends on the type of company. Affiliated companies, e.g. subsidiaries with their own legal personality, can submit their own applications; the maximum funding amount per group of companies is €30 million in total.

2. who is eligible to apply?

In particular, the call is aimed at commercial enterprises, municipal companies, sole proprietors and freelancers that can achieve high environmental benefits through the use of renewable energies in combination with high mileage. The following legal forms are eligible to apply as long as the company headquarters is located in Germany:

  • Sole proprietorship
  • Registered merchant (e.K.)
  • Limited liability company (GmbH
  • Institution under public law (AöR)
  • GmbH&Co.KG
  • Civil law partnership (GbR)
  • registered cooperative (eG)
  • General partnership (OHG)
  • Limited partnership (KG)
  • Stock corporation (AG)
  • Entrepreneurial company (UG)
  • Partnership limited by shares KGaA
  • Partnership (PartG)
  • Partner company with limited professional liability (PartG mbH)
  • European Company (SE)

On the other hand, private individuals
without their own economic activity are not eligible, as these are exclusively grants.

3. when can the charging infrastructure be ordered?

The project may only be started after receipt of the notice of approval . In principle, the conclusion of a supply or service contract attributable to the project is to be regarded as the start of the project. This means that fast-charging infrastructure that has already been ordered can no longer receive funding. Planning and the approval process are not considered the start of the project. SachsenEnergie will be happy to support you in planning your project!

4. what is promoted?

Funding is provided for both the purchase and installation of new fast charging points. These must have a nominal charging capacity of at least 50 kW per charging point. Higher subsidies are available for charging points with a rated charging capacity of at least 150 kW. The connection and civil engineering work required for the project is also subsidized.

5. what does "non-public" mean?

In concrete terms, "non-public" in the context of the funding call means that the fast-charging facility is used exclusively by employees or a defined group of persons of the funded company. It is important here that the persons purchase the electricity at market prices. Charging must also explicitly not be free of charge for employees if the electric car subsidy for fast charging infrastructure is to be applied for. This regulation is intended to ensure that providers in the public sector are not put at a competitive disadvantage by the subsidy.

6. how to apply for the grant

The funding call is valid from 18.09.2023. The funding application is made and submitted online via the LIS portal.

  1. Register with the portal and confirm the registration email

7. what is the funding amount in concrete terms?

The funding amounts differ according to the size of the applying company and the nominal charging capacity at the charging point. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) receive a funding rate of 40%, large companies only 20%. The maximum funding amount per charging point for SMEs is €14,000 for charging points with a nominal charging capacity of 50-149 kW and €30,000 for charging points with a nominal charging capacity of 150 kW or more. For large companies , the maximum subsidy amount per charging point is half in each case, i.e. €7,000 for charging points with a nominal charging capacity of 50-149 kW and €15,000 for charging points with a nominal charging capacity of 150 kW and above. The maximum funding per application is limited to €5 million. Likewise, each company may submit only one application. In the case of affiliated companies, subsidiaries with their own legal personality may submit a separate application.
