Dirk Hauswald from Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH in an interview

Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH subjected two electric cars to a practical test. The goal was to better weigh the benefits for everyday operations. In an interview with umschalten.de, the company draws a first conclusion.

The driving characteristics are impressive, but further developments are needed, especially for refrigerated transport.

With 30 branches and almost 500 employees, Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH is the first port of call for all things meat-related in eastern Saxony. The extensive branch network between Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel and Kamenz, from Coswig to Bautzen, is one of the reasons why the traditional company is testing efficient and sustainable mobility. Commercial Manager Dirk Hauswald reveals in an interview which models he has tested and why it is worthwhile to think about new ways.

Dirk Hauswald, commercial manager of Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH, reports on the test of the BMW i3 and the VW e-Golf.

Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren: 5 SHORT FACTS ABOUT THE COMPANY

Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH operates 34 of its own branches, a catering service, organises grill events and offers an exclusive meat academy. In addition to its own branches, its clientele also includes catering hospitals and food retailers. The history of the family business goes back to 1912. Commitments such as in the nutrition project "Kinder esst nicht irgendwas!" (Children don't eat just anything!) and as sponsors for various events and associations testify to the strong roots in Saxon Switzerland. Numerous state and national prizes and awards for product quality and corporate management confirm the company's path.

IMPRESSIVE DRIVING CHARACTERISTICS, RANGE IN NEED OF DEVELOPMENT

It is therefore hardly surprising that Dürrröhrsdorfer Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH also wants to be prepared for the future and is looking into innovative technologies. So Dirk Hauswald and his colleagues took advantage of SachsenEnergie's offer to test the BMW i3 and the VW e-Golf free of charge for their company. They were particularly impressed by the high acceleration and the barely audible engine. For short distances, the vehicles are definitely an alternative.

For the butcher's vans, however, e-mobility is still insufficiently developed. "Our delivery vehicles cover long distances every day with only short loading and unloading stops. On top of that, our products have to be well cooled," Hauswald explains the additional energy demand. Nevertheless, he sees electric mobility as the means of transport of the future: "If the charging infrastructure and battery range are sufficient, we will see many more of these vehicles on our roads in 10 years' time."

umschalten.de accompanies companies that want to help shape the mobility revolution and provides tips and facts for SMEs on the topic of (electric) mobility. Read more about the new practical portal in this article.
